The Mikey Update!
about 1 year ago – Wed, Jun 11, 2025 at 10:29:38 AM

HEY GANG! It's Mikey.

Well, there’s one week left in the campaign and we have over 1000 backers and that floors me. Thanks to everyone who has backed, and everyone who has spread the hype. Slugblaster is powered by your vibes. Please enjoy this screenshot I took while setting up the document and planning out layout for WARP, and a sketch from SEXONAPIZZA ripped fresh from the sketchbook today.

COMIC CON

  • I’m going to San Diego Comic Con!
  • If you want to say hi, I'll be signing books at the Mythworks booth on July 25, 2pm.
  • OR you can find me watching the ON-STAGE SLUGBLASTER SHOW the same day between 4-6pm. I’ll share details as I get them, but it's rumored to have an all-star cast (acclaimed film director, famous comic book writer, hasbro big-wig??) and it sounds like it’s going to be incredible.
  • Fear not, it will be filmed!

PODCASTS

  • Quantum Kickflip season 3 is LIVE. They are going weird-and-wonderful this season, with a campaign set in an interdimensional boarding school and a crew made up of meta-terrestrial students. Check it out to see some Slime, Warp, & Solder content in action, like the new Signature Slimeform. And join their patreon too for a chance at their own supplement: the Tome of Tricks!
  • My First Dungeon’s radddd Slugblaster season is in episode 3. You’re going to love the intense faithy run the crew tries. Also you NEED to check out BE/HOLD recording the theme song

PATREON

  • I'm new to Patreon but having a blast figuring it out. I share regular lab-reports about what I've been working on, as well as other fun stuff like tours of the Slugblaster Museum (aka the depths of my old  project files). Here's a sample of the kind of stuff I'm doing. If you’re weird like that, I’d love your loonies.

And finally a peek at a slug made by Mythworks' Play and Culture Lead, Graham Gentz!
Graham Truly Explored the Limits of Slugliness!

CAN YOU OUT DO HIM

Remember! you don't have to use our suggested image, but it does make things simpler, which helps, especially if you're planning on making something Wild and Free like Graham's.

You can post them in our Official Mythworks Discord Here, the Slugblaster Discord, or submit them to the Discussion posted on Backerkit. (linked in the section heading.)

"Pog Jam"

As you now ought know, "MYTHWORKS IS BRINGING BACK POGS!"

To celebrate this, Mikey has started a game jam on itch.io for any kind of game using pogs! The game can be about pogs, use pogs, or reimagine pogs!

a brief reminder of the rules

We'd Love to hear your Radical Pog Ideas below! Click the section heading to go to the itch page instead!

Speaking of Community, as you may know, the TTRPG community is pretty tight knit! Mythworks would love to take a moment and shout out some Friends!

Monte Cook Games - Invisible Sun: Electric and Indigo

If you follow us on Backerkit you may have recently received an email informing you that Mythworks backed Monte Cook Games' project "Invisible Sun: Electric and Indigo" a reimagining of the presentation for the incredible "Invisible Sun"

Given our Commitment to Design and Beauty, you can see why we support our friends on their campaign!

If you click over to their project, with just under 10 hours to go it'd be wonderful to see our friends get a final push for an Incredible Project!

Learn more about Monte Cook Games on their Website
(Or click the Section Heading above to go directly to the backerkit page and show your support)

Fun Fact, Kate Evans, MCG Marketing Manager, revealed in our Slime, Warp, Solder Community space that she's in a regular Slugblaster Campaign!

Pandion Games

Pandion Games, known for titles like "The Substratum Protocol" and "Badger + Coyote" (I have a special fondness for games specifically designed for 2 players.), is now taking Pre-Orders and Late Backing for their newest project "Midnight Muscadines"!

In "Midnight Muscadines" player characters are Marmateers, gatherers, preservationists, explorers, spellcasters, and most importantly Jam Makers. Producing Jams from the last source of Magic: Midnight Muscadines!

It is designed for Solo, Duet (As You know I Love a 2 player game), and larger groups too, rules for play with or without GM are also built right in!

And of course, the book is gorgeous! We love to support and further the inundation of Beautifully Designed Landscape Format TTRPG Books!

René-Pier Deshaies-Gélinas, Fari RPGs gave the team quite high praise!
(Watch out for some cool upcoming announcements regarding René-Pier and Mythworks [and it's not even the awesome CBR+PNK info you may already know You Mythworks Superfan, You])

And stop off at nearby Starlight Grove 1646 to support more Dear Friends of Mythworks- (Ryan Khan and) Julien Legault. Though, only Julien will be able to attend.

Or maybe you're more interested in playing games! There are still a few spots left for our scheduled games of "Pico: Tiny Bugs, Big World" and "Under the Autumn Strangely" made by Graham Gentz featured in our 'Mythworks Presents Line'.

Final Thoughts

Last month, while at ACD Expo in Madison Wisconsin, Mr. Fishy (Caleb) and I ran demo sessions of The Wildsea and Slugblaster for retailers to give them a feel for the game and how best to sell it within their stores! Games were 20-30 minutes, so after we ran through a quick character creation I revealed to them that they're in the middle of cutting a tape for "Interdimensional Funniest Home Videos" (Still hosted by Tom Bergeron, ofc)

Of course, IDFHV has some ground rules to prevent things from getting too wonky too fast.
Prime among them being

Scary isn't funny.
Getting hurt isn't funny. Getting hurt is Scary.
Surprise can be funny, but remember, Scary isn't funny!

Our Crews "Hawt Weelz" "MamaZ BoiZ" and "Rhein Stoned Kow Boiz" each had wildly different approaches!

Do you think IDFHV has any other rules they impose on submissions, post your thoughts or suggestions below!

Also Important: What Would Your Crew do - share below!

Regarding directly collaborating with Retailers

Following a request from Walter Julias of "The Midnight Tavern" in Sayville NY we added a Retail Support tier specifically for Slime Warp and Solder! The tier is 1$ and will allow us to confirm specifics on the Backerkit Survey.

Given that we're expanding into more and more stores through increased distribution and more direct to retailer sales, we'd love to see Mythworks' Wonders in your local stores! If you see any of our delights while visiting a local store, please take a pic and share it with us here or on social media! We Love to see it! (and it's valuable data that can help us better understand our current carrying map)

Alternatively, if your Friendly Local Game Store doesn't carry Mythworks wonders and you want them to, please give them my email [email protected] and I'll help figure out something that works for them!

Once again, thank you so much for your support and community!

This is my first weekly project update on behalf of Mythworks and it is only because a community like You allows Mythworks to Grow! I can hardly wait to see what We do next thanks to You.

Please tell your friends, word of mouth is our favourite!
Better yet! Go Play our Games!

Truly, Thank You So Much!

Ric

Pogz + Pimp My Slug!
about 1 year ago – Thu, May 29, 2025 at 04:28:38 PM

Hey Everybody,

Ray here back with your week one update. And what a killer week one it was - as of writing we have 960 backers and $73,330 raised. Those are incredible numbers that have far exceeded our wildest expectations. Thank you fam. Y'all are amazing.

I'm back from my Memorial Day vacation at Lightning in a Bottle and guess what I saw?!?

Not quite a slug, but definitely some kind of sign! Here's to all the interdimensional synchronicity out there in the multiverse.

Today's update focuses on two community activities we'll be running throughout the rest of this campaign:

Wilkie's Pog Jam!

First, let's talk about Pogz! Mythworks and Wilkie's Candy Lab are bringing back the eponymous collectibles in 2025. If we can, we'll be including punch out pogz with each set of Slime, Warp, Solder.

But what can you do with pogz? All sorts of things! They're tokens, play objects, artifacts - whatever you can think of, really. To brainstorm some fun ideas, Mikey is hosting a game jam over on Itch.

AYE YO!

In celebration of Slime, Warp, & Solder, we're having a pog jam!
Jam Details
  • Make something that uses pogs! Mini-games, ttrpg game aids, Slugblaster rules variations, new subsystems, whatever!
  • Go as big or small as you want! A screenshot of a single sentence is absolutely appropriate.
  • Slime, Warp, & Solder will ship with 12 pogs. That information may inspire you.
  • No AI art, thx.
  • You are free to reference Slugblaster.
  • You are free to sell your submission.
  • Submissions will be hidden until the jam ends.
  • Join the discord to jam with others!
  • This is the definition of unnecessary, so please have fun.

Share in the Discord or in the comments for this campaign what your ideas are! We're looking forward to seeing what you can come up with :)

PIMP MY SLUG 💰💼👑

You may have seen this backer tier when thinking about what to get for this campaign:

We wanted to include a $1 tier in case anyone just wanted to support us and help boost the algorithm. While making the image reward tier, we had a lot of laughs pimping the slug out with a bucket hat, chain, and party shades. So much so that we thought it would be hilarious to see what you, dear backers, could come up with.

So, we're throwing a contest!

  • From now until the end of this campaign, PIMP YOUR SLUG and show us what you got!
  • The winning pimped out slug will be forever immortalized in pog form.
  • To participate, show your pimped slug on our community wall for this campaign.
  • When the campaign ends, we'll put up all of the entrants to vote.
  • Please only use the artwork provided, original art or open sourced art for your entry.
  • You can use the image below as a starting point (though it's not necessary):

Maybe your pimped slug has a fur coat. Or a pacifier. Or cheese dust hands! The possibilities are endless. Go wild. Have fun! And SHOW US WHAT YOU GOT!

-------------

That's all for today's update! Looking forward to everyone's entries into our two  community activities this campaign!

Hey Everyone,

Thank you for joining us day one. You are all incredible  💜

We have a lot of fun community activities planned for this campaign including an art contest (sort of) and a game jam. But for now, we just wanted to express our gratitude to all of you for making this happen. It's been a really tough campaign for reasons I don't need to get into again, but seeing all of you show up and rolling in - over 300 at the time of writing before 10 AM Pacific - has been incredibly cathartic.

There have been a couple of early questions which I rolled into the FAQ, but here they are too for visibility's sake:

Where do you ship from?

We have warehouses in the USA, Europe, UK, and distribution with our partners to Australia and Canada.

I don't see POGs anywhere as an item?

So this one's an ongoing discussion. Pogs were a last minute idea that we loved so much and wanted to roll with, but present significant challenges in the current enviro. We're trying to get the pogs into the boxed set but have to double-check that they won't skyrocket our costs. If we're able to do so, they'll be included with every Slime, Warp, Solder Set. If not, we'll print them separately and include them with the "All the New Things" and "Deluxe" tiers and offer them as an add-on after the campaign closes.

If I get a physical copy, will I get a PDF?

Yes, you'll receive a digital copy of your physical good. There were a couple of the backer thank you tiers that I think did not have them listed, but they will be provided. So, if you got Slugblaster; Core or GOTY as part of your reward tier, you'd receive the Slugblaster Core PDF. Same with Slime, Warp, Solder.

Like last campaign, we're also going to throw in some silly little Achievements that we'll film. Last time, Mikey did a frontside 180 after hitting 360 backers. If you have any suggestions, please throw them in comment below!

Thanks everybody. That's it for now - we'll update again soon (probably next week)!
